Common large format printing problems

Oct 31, 2017

Large format printing is called so because they are way larger than a normal print. These prints are usually use for posters, banners, wallpapers, pop up displays and backdrops. They are commonly used to attract the attention of anyone walking around it and to inform them about something. Promotions, exhibitions and new store introduction can be some reason for using large format printing. However, when printing large format prints, there are certain things that must be taken into consideration.

Being creative is a very important trait to have when coming up with posters. However, you must consider your audience in your pursuit of creativeness. It is tempting to use fancy fonts, however, sometimes, these fonts are too fancy to the point they become unreadable. If your audience has difficulty reading your prints, they are not likely to patronize your store. Font size is also something that needs to be taken into consideration. The general rule of thumb is that the larger your prints, the larger your font needs to be. If you expect your audience to be reading your poster from a distance, you need to make sure they can see your message. Add 1 font size for every 3 meters you expect the distance to be.

Colour choice

When it comes to large format printing, the main point is to grab attention. Therefore, it is a clever idea to use striking, contrasting colours in your prints rather than your usual go to monotone colours. Be daring when coming up with large prints. In this age, marketing has changed so much that you always must try something drastic to gain market share. However, do take note of readability issues. Be daring, but take calculative risks. If your prints are too striking that your audience cannot make sense of it then it is not going to convert them to paying customers.

Low resolution pictures

Placing pictures in prints are a very common thing. When you design your prints with your photo editing software, you want to make sure that you are using high resolution pictures. Remember that what you see on your screen may not translate exactly to what you will get. When the picture is blown up to its intended size, it may appear pixelated if it is low resolution. It is better to invest in buying high resolution pictures or taking them yourself wherever possible.
